We’ve all been there.  It’s time to make that sales call, meet with the difficult client, ask our boss for a raise, tell your spouse you forgot to stop for milk.  We’ve felt it… fear. 

Fear is a natural response that was and still is a necessary part of life to keep us safe.  But rather than giving us pause to choose whether it’s a fear keeping us alive or just something pushing us outside our comfort zone, fear often is the reason business people do not succeed to the level of their true potential.  Instead of the fight, flight or freeze response, too many times it is simply flight or freeze.

In business we encourage you to use fear as an indicator that it’s time to do the thing you are fearing.  Instead of flight or freeze response, it’s time to fight.  Fear can either stop you from calling the sales leads, writing that book, increasing your prices, opening another location, hiring the assistant, or you can step into the fear, make the move and experience success and growth.

Every move you make when stepping into fear will not be a success, but every time you don’t make a move due to fear, you absolutely will not reap the benefits of what growth could be on the other end of your fear. 

How do we overcome fear?  We don’t.  Courage is not an absence of fear, it’s simply the act of not allowing that fear to stop you.  We have found the best way of limiting the power of fear is to take time out of the equation.  Afraid of the next sales call?  Pick up the phone NOW and make that call NOW.  Need to meet with a difficult client?  Get that meeting set for first thing in the morning so you don’t have time to role play that conversation in your head all day and psych yourself out.  Need to increase your prices?  Do your market research, know your worth, make the change and don’t look back.
